Vignette Shades Can Roll or Stack

If you want the Hunter Douglas Vignette Shades, you should probably work with a real professional because there are so many technical factors to consider. In this blog, we are going to talk about a couple of them. The primary focus is whether your Vignettes will Roll or Stack. Hunter Douglas calls it the Stacking Style and the Rolling Style.

Stacking Style

Stacking Style is a great choice for a more traditional looking Roman shade. What I want you to look at is the stack at the top of the window when the shade is taken all the way to the top. You will see that the stack of the fabric is more pronounced than the next option and the next photo. According to the Hunter Douglas website, the stack of the fabric at the top is roughly 20% of the overall height. So, now figure out what that means.

If you have a window that is 60” tall, then you can count on the stack being at roughly a foot. So, now imagine if you can tolerate losing one fifth of the view and light at the top of the window. These choices matter.

Rolling Style is a unique option for a modern Roman shade. When we are discussing the stack, you will notice from the photo that the total stack is very consistent at about 4 inches. If you are doing an inside mount shade, then this maximizes your view and light. It also gives you more options in terms of the types of fabric style options.

Fabric Style Options

What I just wrote is a bit confusing. It is not the fabric that is the option, it is the pleating type that can be different. The Stacking style only comes in what is called the 4” Full Fold, but the Rolling style can be done in another option called 6” Flat Fold. Here is a photo that shows them both. The Flat Fold has a more contemporary look with 50% more space between the pleats. Again, the 6” Flat Fold only can be rolled up and not stacked.

The biggest takeaway from this discussion has been that it really requires a professional to help you make the right choice when purchasing these premium Hunter Douglas products. Even though this can be complicated to figure out which choice is right, this is probably only 10% of the choices that we have to walk through in making our selections with you.
