This is a tutorial on how to use Retractable Cords on your shadings. Used for the Hunter Douglas Silhouette shades and many other second generation sheer shades, this will help you if you just moved into a house or office with these retractable cords.

There are many different types of lift systems available, but retractable cords are a good choice for specific situations. Here are just a few:

  • If you don’t want to screw holes in your window frames for continuous cord loops.
  • If you like the look of cordless, but you can’t reach the top of the window to raise the shade all the way up.
  • If you want to eliminate almost the whole cord, as you can shorten the drop to next to nothing.
  • If child safety is important to you.
