Large Sliding Doors

Have you noticed how large the patio doors are getting? Changes in engineering has allowed architects to create huge openings in your home. Typically, they are doing this with patio doors or large sliding doors. But sometimes, it is just a picture window. Lately, I’m helping clients to cover windows that are 8, 10, 12 and even 15 feet wide.

These builders are at the forefront of putting in large sliding doors. By the way, if you are a builder in the Reno area and you also use oversized patio doors, please let me know. I’d be happy to add you to this blog. When I get a call from a client asking for help in doing window treatments for these windows, I can usually guess which projects they are from.

Technical Issues with Large Sliding Door Window Coverings

Not all blinds, shades or other window treatments will be able to cover a large sliding door without issues. As I mentioned in the video, the size of the material that is produced is very relevant. For example, some shade fabrics only come in widths up to 96”. So, if your large sliding doors are 144”, this material won’t cover it in one piece. Also, if you want Motorization, keep in mind that the motors can only lift a finite amount. Certain fabrics are heavier than others and will have limitations.

You Are The Determining Factor

We could review much more information on this topic, but a proper consultation on large patio doors requires that you are part of the process. Every decision is based on your functional needs and your sense of style. Our goal is to help you reach both.
