What Does a Basic Wood Cornice Look Like?

When you see this video of a wood cornice done for a Lake Tahoe client, you will see why we suggest covering your roller shades with some type of top treatment. The most important thing to remember is that top treatments, valances, cornices, fascias and other types of products that cover the window coverings at the top of the window can come in many different styles.

The big question is, “Do you want your wall to look like this?

Roller Shades without Wood Cornice

As you can see from the photo, the base of the wood cornice had already been built and we worked along with the contractor to make sure that it came out exactly as we designed it. When you look at the video, you can see how clean the wood cornice makes the room look.

Current Top Treatment Design

We have focused on a cornice box in this blog, but please be aware that the style of top treatments change regularly. As an example, we can think about this job. Sleek and straight lines are a big trend as of the early 2020’s, but what is to come? It is very interesting to see the changes occurring. Kempler Design has been in business since 1993 and we’ve seen a lot of changes in styles. Back in the 90’s, we did lots of upholstered cornice boxes that were straight. Then we started adding lots of curves.

Curves became luxurious with all the fun traditional styles of valances. There were folds and all kinds of add ons to the shapes of the fabrics. Prints too, big and fun, were very common. Just watch some old TV shows from the last few decades and you will see the styles of the day in your face.

We made this video so you can see what a very smooth top treatment looks like, but keep in mind that we aren’t suggesting a wood cornice for you. The only way to make that choice is to use our interactive design. We will walk you through the process to get exactly what you desire.
