Shutters Need to Work Well

There are two important factors in making sure that shutters not only look great but that they function well, as well…well. [Sorry, I like playing with words. :) ] The first is that they are designed correctly. The second is that they are installed correctly. Both are critical. This is the reason that with Kempler Design, which is me, I design and install our shutter jobs.

To clarify, let me say this. For clients that are close to the Reno / Tahoe area, this is absolute truth. We have clients that ask us to do their installs in areas around the country based on their confidence in working with us. But, occasionally, we have shutters shipped to clients because they are willing to either install the shutters themselves or have a craftsman do the work for them. Every single one of these types are from clients that are a long way from us. We install every job that we can. And again, when I say we, I mean me.

Please take a look at the shutter details at this job we did. You will be able to see both the design and the installation that is perfect for the window that we covered.

Using a Professional Installer

Properly Installed Custom Shutters

I’ve seen quite a few shutters in non-clients homes that the shutter details were designed well but poorly installed. Typically this is because a lot of companies hire people to install their shutters that don’t have the proper training or common sense. When this happens, I’ve seen clients that are so disappointed in who installed their shutters. Again, these products are not complete unless the good designed and manufactured products are also installed properly. My suggestion is to be careful about who you use. I am making no judgement about any particular company. I am just encouraging you to make a careful choice about who is installing your shutters.

Personal Thoughts About Shutters

I’ve been doing this work for over 30 years. My take on shutters has changed a lot as time passes. Currently, of all the types of window treatments that we do, I find my reaction to shutter installations to be some of the most personally rewarding. I love the way that beautiful shutters make me feel. They are so moving to me. I also love how the clients react to seeing what they hoped for come to fruition. Of course, the type of work that we do is done with an artist’s mentality. We do our best to design shutter details with the combination of function and style.

I don’t suggest shutters for every home or in every window. I design things based on the desires and needs of my clients. But when it seems like the right choice for them, I am very happy not only to provide it, but also to see the end result for the client and for myself as well.
