French Door Shutters are a great option for many doors, but there are other choices that may be better for you. Take a look at the video below and see one such option. In any case, these choices are all individualized. It depends on many different factors to determine which is best for you. Let’s discuss it a bit more.

Shutters and French Doors

Whether it be a French Door, like the photo below or sliding doors, shutters can be made to work very effectively with either. But there are considerations that you need to think about.

French Door shutters can be the best way to get perfect symmetry with the rest of the shutters in the room. If you want the window treatments to all match perfectly, you probably will want french door shutters. But if function is part of your thought process, you might consider some other choices. Why?

The biggest concern when it comes to french door shutters is the bulk of the shutter on a door that is moving all the time. Every time that door opens or closes it is creating stress on the fasteners and the hinges of the shutter. This is not a bad thing, but it is something that you need to be aware of. I’ve seen some shutters that are mounted to french doors where repeated door slamming or other abuses have caused the shutters to sag significantly.

Shutters on French Doors

Other concerns that come up are the projection into the room, the obstruction of handles and the weight of the product on the door. All can be dealt with, but they are legit things to consider. What is the other concern that is on most people’s minds? To use french door shutters with “cut-outs” like in the picture costs more money than a standard rectangular shutter.

How much more? It can be twice the price of a standard shutter. That is a realistic consideration for most of our clients. This client made the decision for a number of reasons, but the main one was their desire for something they don’t have to worry about since this unit is a rental.

So, there you have it. There are many considerations that we need to consider when choosing whether to have french door shutters or other options in window coverings. Your selection will depend on your concerns and circumstances. If you need the help, let us know.
