Google Assistant for Voice Control of Somfy Motors

If you have Somfy motors in your window treatments, you can use voice control to activate them. I used the term “Activate” because that is the word that Google uses to make a device function using words. This video shows it in action. Here is the basic stuff you need to know.

First, you will need Somfy motors that have smart motors. This means that they receive signals from a Gateway or Hub. You will then need to have a Gateway. The Somfy Tahoma Gateway is the latest and greatest from this company. They used to have a different Hub, but this is the newest product from Somfy.

Once you have a gateway, you need to create scenes that can be activated by Google Home. This is done by following the directions that you will receive when you get the Somfy Tahoma. Once you have scenes created, you need to open your connections to the Google Assistant. I am going to post a picture here that gives you the complete breakdown of how to do this. Here it is….and it’s crazy long!

How to Talk To Your Google Assistant

The key word that you will use is “Activate”. You will say the words, “Hey Google, Activate (“Scene Name”)”. In this video the scenes are named “Back Closed” and “Back Sheer”. So, you will say, “Hey Google, Activate Back Sheer”.

In some cases, Google Home or Google Assistant will ask you if you said to activate “Back Sheer”. Answer the question with a “Yes” and then Google will operate your shade for you. Other times, it will operate without asking you to clarify.

Once you get used to using it, it becomes very easy to operate or activate the use of Somfy motors using the Google Assistant.
