The volume of motor noise in shading systems is important to some people. We’ve noticed that some clients want quiet motors and other clients don’t care about the motor noise at all. Please watch the video to see how the technology has improved over the years.

The first motor you hear is the current one. The second one is from over 10 years ago. I’m just learning editing, so I put them in the wrong order. Oh well! But most people want to hear the current version anyway, so it’s a win!

Recently, we did a job for a client in Reno NV that was using a Somfy motor on a Banded Shade, or Zebra Shade. I let them know that the motors were fairly loud. When they arrived, I cringed at the volume, because I am a quiet freak. But when the client heard them, she said that they were great. No problem for her. This just shows the difference between people’s expectations and the difference between perceptions.

The takeaway is that the most important thing in understanding the motor noise is that it is subjective. Some people want quietness and others strictly want function. Which one are you? We can guide you through the process.
