Custom Draperies

If you open any high end design magazine, you’ll notice that custom draperies are back. This doesn’t mean that shades, shutters and blinds are out, but drapes can finish a look. But what style to choose is important. In this blog, we will talk about why we chose grommet top draperies with a custom drapery rod.

As we discussed in the video, there were 2 primary reasons we chose what we did for this Reno client.

  1. For closure’s sake, we avoided a center bracket. By not having a center bracket, it allows the two panels to come together completely. But, because the width of the rod is about 7′, we needed a one piece custom rod. The rod had to be heavy duty, meaning it is a thicker gauge, to avoid sagging. Note- Kempler Design only does one-piece rods. We never use telescoping rods. Rings or grommets will get caught on them, causing damage to drapery panels.
  2. Stackback- We needed something that would stack tightly. Some applications have more room to clear the fabric on to the wall, but if you noticed in the video, there is a window just a few inches from the right side of the door. We could have used rings as well, but this client wanted a cleaner and sleeker look. Grommets were the answer that they were happier with.

There were other factors as well.

  • The choice of fabric
  • Lining choice
  • Placement of rod height
  • Color of Rod and Grommets
