What age is too old for motorized window coverings? I have no idea. Everyone, meet Elsie, our most experienced customer. She is an amazing 96 year old woman for whom we recently installed a Hunter Douglas Duette Vertiglide Shade. To be honest, her family was very involved with the process as they moved her into the family home.

Why did they choose motorized window coverings? Because for Elsie to be able to get up from her bed or chair and open or close the shade would have been difficult and potentially dangerous. This Vertiglide shade makes opening and closing the 8 foot wide shade effortless.

As I mentioned in the video, this shading can also be used manually without any damage to the motorization. This is important for convenience and also for safety. Sometimes, you don’t have the remote control handy, or you might be coming in from the outside. Being able to manually move the shade makes life easier. As far as safety goes, if the power is out or the batteries have gone low power, then you need to be able to get through that door during an emergency.

These shades are a high end product. Not only do they have the motorization, but they are also from the premium honeycomb line from Hunter Douglas. This means that the cost has a premium, but if the product fits your needs, it can be the perfect solution. Even if you are older, if you can change channels on your television, you can use a motorized window covering.
