My friend James wrote this fun article which shows how we have to decipher people’s words to identify what they really want. I hear it all the time. “I want blinds”, but they really want shutters. “I want curtains”, but they really want shades. One of the things that drives me crazy is how we give French pronunciations to window treatments. Is it Valance with the accent on the “Val” or Valance with the accent on the “ance”? Somehow, we think that the French have some corner market on design. I think I prefer Italian design to French design. What is the last French supercar you’ve seen? That new Peugeot is HOT! Not! In the end, this is the only thing that matters. Make sure that when you talk to your window fashions expert, you communicate completely what you want the product to do for you. That way, he can guide you to the right product, regardless of what you call it.
