Grommet Top Curtains
In terms of percentages, we only do about 15% of our fabric based window treatments as grommet top curtains, but for the right circumstances, it can be a great solution. This particular window is for a very wide set of sliding doors or patio doors. It is 12 feet wide and that can cause issues for custom window treatments.
One of the reasons that we chose grommet top curtains in this case has to do with the small stacking space on the right side of the window. There is only about 12” of wall space on that side so we needed something that didn’t take up too much room on the sides. We could have covered more of the window, but this sliding door is on the north side of the house.

You may wonder why this matters, but let’s use logic in analyzing it. If you look at the photo you will see that the patio is covered with a soffit that extends all the way to the backyard. Imagine all of the light that is stopped from entering the room. Now think about where the sun is.
Because the sun is always facing AWAY from the opening, because the window faces north, the room is even darker than if the door had faced south. This means that maximizing the light becomes more important.
Therefore, grommet top curtains were a good choice for this client. The stacking is very diminutive for the amount of window that is covered. The most important factor in this window treatment design is the reaction of the homeowner. We design based on the needs and desires of the clientele and as you can tell from her reaction, she is very happy with both the looks and the function of these grommet top curtains.
