Dual Roller Shades

Roller shades are very popular as a window treatment, but sometimes they don’t sufficiently handle your functional needs. Here is an example:

These Roller Shades can be raised with Norman SmartRelease

Let’s say that you have a window in your bedroom that you want to darken, so that you can sleep. Putting an opaque, or blackout shade in the window will do a great job in creating darkness. But, what if you want to have natural light while you get dressed in the morning. With just a blackout shade that rolls up to the top, you may have to sacrifice privacy to get natural light. Every bit you raise the roller shade from the bottom decreases the amount of privacy.

Dual roller shades might be a great solution. By layering two separate shades, you can have one be blackout and the other can be translucent or even sheer, like the one in the video. There are hundreds of different fabrics to choose from and a good designer will help you select the right fabrics.

Lift Systems for Dual Roller Shades

Dual roller shades have the same options for lift systems as standard roller shades. You can use a standard beaded cord with clutch or use the SmartRelease lift system from Norman. They are essentially the same, but as the video shows you, these lower themselves to the bottom with a gentle tug on the back of the cord. Lifting is also easier, due to the spring loaded system.

Also available on these shadings are motorization and cordless operation. Just like always, there are pros and cons to all of the lifting systems. Your best bet is to consult with a professional who can assist you in making the best decision for your dual roller shades or other products.
