It can be hard to find window treatments for wide windows. Some of the home builders are now putting in super wide windows to access the back yard. One of these builders is Ryder Homes. We’ve been doing a lot of these patio doors with draperies.

You can’t just put up a set of ready made panels as window treatments for wide windows. It requires a custom drapery rod to handle the width of the window. This allows you to have something that will function for years without any hassles. In this job, done in Reno NV, we used drapery hardware from IronArt by Orion. It is called the Designer Traversing Series. You have choices of all kinds of shapes and finishes, but most importantly, it works!

Decorative Drapery Rod – Window Treatment for Wide Windows

The back of the rod has the working parts. The front of the rod is the decorative portion. In the case of the job we are looking at, we chose a square rod with a face height of about 2″. Based on the look of the room, we made the selections of the color, the finials, the shape and the size. As you can see, a lot of thought goes into the right window treatments for wide windows. Just think about it. We haven’t even discussed the choice of fabric for this room. But that will be a personal choice anyway. By putting all of it together, you get a custom designer window treatment.
