How do you adjust a Hunter Douglas shade rail if it is not level? Use the tool provided by Hunter Douglas or get an allen wrench that fits the opening.

The video shows you how to use the tool. Remember that each “click” raises or lowers the shade by about 1/8″ of an inch. There is a limited amount of adjustment that should be taken. If you lower the shade too much, the cord can disconnect from the gearing inside the rail. This requires a complicated repair, so be cautious about major adjustments. If the shade is more than a 1/4″ out of level, the problem may be something else.

Hunter Douglas Adjustment Key

We would suggest lowering the shade to the bottom of its limit to remove any loops that may have developed. Sometimes, if the shade hit an obstacle, the cording can loop in the headrail. It is not common, but it can happen.

This type of adjustment key is only available from Hunter Douglas on their more recent models. I don’t remember the date, but I seem to remember this change around 2015. If your shades are older than this, the method of adjustment is completely different, and more complicated. Call us for a consultation if you need some assistance.
